Whether you are a millennial like me struggling to build a career or a lucky one enjoying the post-grad bliss, it is always important to take care of your skin on a daily basis. The relation of beauty with skin care is a well-known fact, and it is the glorious way to get a face that is glow-y, a picture that is Instagram-worthy (without the filters). So what kind of skin care routine do you need to follow? Here are some useful tips that will make your skin feel loved.
The Skincare Basics
Washing your face with a good cleanser is an effective way to keep your skin healthy. But before that, you need to know your skin type. You don’t have to spend hours in research nor visit a dermatologist to know that.
There are four main skin types – average, oily, dry, and a combination. If you have average skin; you are lucky as you have more flexibility. However, if your skin is oily, dry or of the combination type, you need to abide by a skin care routine and stick to the recommended products. Here is some information on the skin care routine for different skin types.
Normal skin
If your skin is free from excess oil or dry spots, your skin type is mostly normal. Your priority should be keeping your skin hydrated by maintaining moisture levels in the skin. It’s good to start your skin care daily routine by using a mild cleanser to get rid of dirt and grime from skin pores. The next step is dabbing a light-weight moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated. Exfoliating skin few times a week is also a good option followed by using SPF product to protect your skin from harmful UV rays of the sun.
Dry Skin
If you feel the tightness of skin and notice flakes or dry patches on your skin, you’ve got dry skin. It is a good idea to start your day with a mild cleanser that will not further strip natural oils from your skin. Heavy moisturizers rich in Shea butter and oils work well for dry skin as they replenish much of the moisture lost in cleansing and leave your skin well hydrated. Don’t forget to use an SPF product recommended for dry skin types to protect your skin from harmful sun radiation.
Oily Skin
If your face feels oily or has a constant sheen to it, you have oily skin. A gentle soap-free cleanser, a lightweight moisturizer, and an exfoliant few times a week followed by an SPF product is a nice skin routine you could follow. Many young people have a misunderstanding that oily skin doesn’t need any moisturizing which is not true. So don’t be tempted to skip the moisturizing part for your skin.
Combination skin
If you have a combination skin you would have dry patches in some areas of the face, and accumulation of oil in t-zone. The best daily skin routine would be using a gentle and balanced cleanser that neither dries nor irritates your skin followed by a hydrating serum for your dry areas. You can use a mattifying serum on your t-zone and lightweight moisturizer for other areas of the face. Don’t forget to use an oil-free SPF product to protect your skin from the harsh sun.
Skincare is not complicated. You can easily familiarize with your skin type and work on a routine that gives your face the much needed TLC.
